Dear SAU 50 Staff, Parents and Community –

School Use Feasibility Committee (Rye)
On Wednesday, October 25th, the School Use Feasibility Committee will hold a public input session in the Rye Junior High Cafeteria from 6:00pm-7:30pm. The School Use Feasibility Committee was formed per Article 3 of the 2017 Rye School District Ballot and calls for a “Committee to study the long-term enrollment projections and consider how to best use school district properties.” The resulting Committee has spent the last six months working diligently to identify various school use scenarios, and invites residents’ feedback in this preliminary step of potential future configurations. Townspeople should note that this Committee is an advisory committee rather than a decision-making committee. Its purpose is to submit a report to The Town by December 1, 2017 for further consideration by The Town and The School Board. Please direct any questions to co-chairpersons Peggy Balboni at pbalboni@comcast.net or Paula Tsetsilas at ptsetsilas@sau50.org.

New Castle Parent Forum
The New Castle School Board has scheduled a Parent Forum for Thursday, October 26th beginning at 7:00 PM at Maude H. Trefethen School.  This informal gathering with members of the school board and administration is to allow parents an opportunity to share their child’s / children’s experience(s) attending Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth Middle School, and Rye Junior High School.

Portsmouth High School Open House
Portsmouth High School will be hosting its annual Grade 8 Open House on October 26th beginning at 6:30 pm with an orientation meeting in the high school auditorium.  The Open House is geared to all potential entering high school students from the Towns of Greenland, Newington, New Castle, and Rye.

Contract Negotiations
The Rye School Board and the Rye Education Support Personnel Association have entered into formal negotiations for a successor agreement. The Rye Education Support Personnel Association represents building custodians, food service managers, food service assistant managers, food service assistants, head custodians, para-educators, secretaries, secretary assistants, sign interpreters, and special education aides in the Rye School District. Representatives from both sides are optimistic that a tentative agreement will be reached later this fall.
